Calderdale Dementia Hub – Case Study
A website design and build infused with empathy, innovation, and dedication
The Challenge
The Calderdale Dementia Hub (CDH), a collaboration between Community Links and Age UK Calderdale & Kirklees, provides vital information and advice for people affected by dementia. However, the service lacked a clear brand identity and online presence, making it difficult for users to find and access support. CDH needed an accessible dementia support website design that would act as a central, trusted platform for patients, carers, and professionals. Their goal was to create a site that was not only informative and inclusive but also empathetic to the needs of a diverse audience seeking clarity and connection.

Our Approach
- Inclusive Design: We kept the layout simple and the typography clear. This made the site easier to navigate, especially for people living with dementia and their carers. In addition, the colour palette was chosen to reduce visual strain and support readability.
- Multilingual Accessibility: To reach more people, we added a translation tool. The site can be viewed in six languages, helping users who don’t speak English as a first language.
- Self-Referral Feature: Instead of requiring GP involvement, we created a three-step form. This allows patients and carers to ask for support directly. As a result, the process became faster and more user-friendly.
- Content-Rich Structure: We structured the site to guide visitors with ease. Key pages include FAQs, volunteering opportunities, careers, and a ‘Stories’ section. This section shares lived experiences, blog posts, and press coverage – building empathy and trust.
The Results
Since launch, the Calderdale Dementia Hub has become a trusted online resource. Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
